Title: Senior Structural Steel Detailer & Estimator

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Detailer & Estimator to join the Fabrication team. This senior-level position is ideal for a highly skilled professional with extensive experience in structural steel detailing, fabrication drawings, quantity take-offs, and project estimating. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting fabrication and construction projects while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed structural steel shop, fabrication, and erection drawings using AutoCAD.
• Review and interpret structural, architectural, and engineering drawings and specifications.
• Perform steel quantity take-offs and material estimates.
• Develop accurate project cost estimates, including materials, labor, and fabrication requirements.
• Utilize Bluebeam Revu for drawing reviews, markups, measurements, take-offs, and document control.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, customers, and fabrication personnel to resolve design and construction issues.
• Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, fabrication requirements, and project specifications.
• Manage drawing revisions and maintain project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support tendering, bid preparation, and proposal development activities.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in structural steel detailing, estimating, and fabrication support.

• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Strong working knowledge of Bluebeam Revu.
• Extensive experience preparing structural steel shop drawings and erection drawings.
• Proven expertise in steel quantity take-offs and estimating.
• Thorough understanding of steel fabrication, welding, and erection practices.
• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering and construction drawings.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Tekla Structures or other steel detailing software.
• Knowledge of CISC, AISC, CSA, and applicable structural steel standards.
• Previous experience working in a steel fabrication or industrial construction environment.
• Project coordination and customer-facing experience.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned structural steel professional with 10+ years of experience in detailing and estimating, capable of independently managing projects, producing accurate fabrication drawings, and delivering reliable cost estimates while working closely with fabrication and project teams.
