Role: Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Remote (US)

Job Type: Contract

Due to client restrictions - Require only Visa Independent candidates for this role

Critical Skills:

1. Ceph Storage Engineering: Expert / Advanced

• Design, deploy, operate, troubleshoot, and scale Ceph clusters.

• Strong understanding of:

  • MON, MGR, OSD, MDS

  • RBD

  • CephFS

  • RGW / object storage

  • CRUSH maps and failure domains

  • Pools, placement groups, replication and erasure coding

• Diagnose:

  • degraded/undersized PGs

  • slow OSDs

  • recovery/backfill problems

  • capacity imbalance

  • latency and throughput bottlenecks

• Understand storage networking, disk/SSD/NVMe characteristics, failure scenarios and performance tuning.

• Ability to design Ceph for large production virtualization workloads , rather than simply administer an existing cluster.

2. Proxmox VE: Advanced

Candidate should be able to:

• Design and administer multi-node Proxmox VE clusters.

• Deploy and manage KVM virtual machines.

• Understand Proxmox clustering and quorum.

• Integrate Proxmox with Ceph-backed storage.

• Configure Linux bridges, VLANs, bonding, and storage/network separation.

• Troubleshoot cluster, compute, storage, and VM problems.

• Plan node maintenance and workload evacuation.

• Design HA and failure-domain strategies.

• Perform or plan migrations from VMware/OpenStack into Proxmox.

• Understand backup/recovery architecture for Proxmox environments.

• Automate VM provisioning and lifecycle management through APIs/IaC.

3. OpenStack: Advanced

Critical knowledge:

• Nova

• Neutron

• Cinder

• Glance

• Keystone

• Horizon

• Placement

• OpenStack/Ceph integration

• Compute-node lifecycle

• Networking concepts and troubleshooting

• Instance and image lifecycle

• Upgrade planning and execution

4. VMware vSphere: Advanced

Require knowledge of:

• ESXi

• vCenter

• VM lifecycle management

• vMotion

• HA/DRS

• Datastores and storage integration

• Virtual networking / distributed switching

• Cluster maintenance

• Resource contention

• Troubleshooting VM performance

• Migration/export/import concepts

5. Linux Systems Engineering: Expert

• RHEL / Rocky / Alma / Ubuntu

• TCP/IP troubleshooting

6. Infrastructure as Code & Automation: Advanced

9. Resilience, Backup & Disaster Recovery

The engineer should understand:

• HA versus DR

• RPO/RTO

• VM backup architecture

• Ceph failure domains

• node/rack/site failure scenarios

• restore testing

• capacity headroom during failures

• maintenance without service interruption

Critical Technical Skills:

• Advanced hands-on experience designing, deploying, operating, troubleshooting, and scaling Ceph distributed storage environments supporting production virtualized workloads.

• Advanced experience with Proxmox VE , including clustered virtualization, high availability, Ceph integration, networking, storage, lifecycle management, backup/recovery, and automation.

• Advanced experience administering and troubleshooting OpenStack , including Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Glance, Keystone, compute infrastructure, networking, and Ceph integration.

• Advanced experience with VMware vSphere , including ESXi, vCenter, HA/DRS, virtual networking, storage, lifecycle management, troubleshooting, and workload migration.

• Expert-level Linux engineering skills with Red Hat-derived and Ubuntu distributions in large production environments.

• Strong infrastructure-as-code and automation experience using Ansible, Terraform, Git, Python and/or Bash.

• Strong infrastructure networking knowledge including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, bonding/LACP, MTU, DNS, firewalls, virtual networking, and high-performance storage networks.

• Experience designing and supporting bare-metal server infrastructure , including compute, storage, network interfaces, firmware, hardware lifecycle, and data-center deployment.

• Demonstrated ability to perform large-scale virtualization and storage migrations , including discovery, capacity planning, dependency analysis, migration testing, rollback planning, and post-migration validation.

• Strong understanding of high availability, backup/recovery, disaster recovery, capacity management, monitoring, performance tuning, security, and platform lifecycle management .
